Has Your Personal Information Been Stolen?

If you believe that the privacy of your personal information may have been compromised, you should act quickly to resolve the problem. Here are some steps that you can take.

  • Contact all of the 3 major credit bureaus and ask that a fraud alert be placed on your file. This will notify lenders and other users of the credit reports that your identity may have been stolen. The credit bureaus are listed below.

    Experian: www.experian.com (888) 397-3742

    TransUnion: www.transunion.com (800) 680-7289

  • Contact any financial institution or credit card company that may need to know about your situation. It may be necessary to put a watch on the account, or establish new accounts.

  • Contact the local police department and fill out a police report describing what happened.

  • Contact the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to file a report by phone at (877)-IDTHEFT or visit their website at www.consumer.gov/idtheft.
